Can u put an a/c condenser on an astro van not connected to a/c lines for the serpentine belt?

Ive been having problems with an astro van ive been working on. The a/c compressor was removed and a byp pulley was put in place. but the byp is out of line with the other pulleys and is not bent. i was wondering if i could put another compressor on to align the pulleys but not connect it to any lines because the person before me that worked on ripped all the a/c lines out. Id think that the compressor might seize up but not sure. a lil help plz
